Out of blind chance I happen to stumble on to 7th son back in the day. I would listen to when doing yard work(which I didn’t have time for then), and also when I went to bed. My wife didn’t like the light on while I read in bed. You came to the rescue. I like how you’ve done the logistical leg work for your idea. To many times I get an idea and it dies because either to lazy to put in the time, or I’m to excited to get all the info out.

As one of your original fans, I’ve converted everyone I know. They have all received “dark arts”"7th son” for gifts, and if they already had those, I turned them on to Sigler and Podiobooks. Keep up the brain-storming so I can see the rainbows*cheeese*

@Neil: There are now literally hundreds of qualified podfic creators who can lead the charge on a project like this. That’s one of the reasons why I posted the document — to tickle the imaginations of current podfic authors, and encourage them to consider ambitious collaborative “multiverse” projects like this one.

As one who has come relatively late to this environment (late 2008), I missed the original document and ideas promoted by you, and I feel that it could still see the light of day.
Someone has to take the ball and run with it. And J.C. – you could very well be the consulting director on this project.
Possibly, a start could be a list of rules, a ‘canon’, from which the stories could be built upon?
I would like to see something like this evolve and come to fruition.

@Laura: Thanks! I’d love to see some hungry podfic creators do a multiverse-spanning saga that incorporates heroes from several podiobooks. I don’t think I could oversee such an ambitious project (as I’d planned to do in 2006), but I’d be honored to consult and brainstorm on it.

Of course, it’s more than just a creative boon for authors. It’s also the cross-promotion to end all cross-promotions. Very high marketing value. Can’t beat that with a stick!

@Nobilis: Indeed, I recall you generously contacting me about Pieces, and I wrote, “I cannot tell you how flattered I am to be invited to participate in this project.” Unfortunately, several commitments prevented me from participating.

As you (and I) point out, the potential for collaborative storytelling in the space is great. I personally know of several such ideas that never made it past the conversation stages before Pieces, and a few that may still be in the works now.

In 2008, I invited a number of podcast fiction authors to a somewhat different collaboration. I wrote a first chapter, sent it around to some of the authors whose work I liked, and was surprised to actually get some responses. The result was the “Pieces” podcast, which ran on its own RSS feed until it was completed, at which time I moved it to Podiobooks.

So not only are those projects entirely possible, at least one is accomplished fact.
