Always insightful, JC. I often watch the goings-on in the social media sphere and wonder what’s “really” going on behind the scenes. Sounds like this was inspired but one of those moments that would leave me scratching my head.

JC, you are definitely one of the very awesome peeps in the band and I admire the way you operate. I very much enjoyed reading this article that is both very vague and also very insightful, even if I’m nowhere near the bands you write about. But we all have our ‘bands’ and I will take your insights with me, thanks for that.

An important point must be made:

Being in the band will get you chicks, yes. But saying that “you’re with the band” doesn’t always work out.

Hutch,

It’s tough to know exactly how to read this. At first blush, it feels like it breaks down like this:

1. Some people are douchebags.
2. I know who they are.
3. I won’t tell you.
4. ?????
5. Profit!

I have a feeling this has a totally different resonance for members of the band. As a member of the audience, I can only base my judgment on the work itself. If the work is good, I don’t really care if the creator is sincere or has my best interest at heart when he or she makes it. A winning personality is a bonus, but in the end, I’m supporting the creation, not the creator. I could find out tomorrow that your “Hey, Everybody!” persona is a total sham; that wouldn’t do anything to diminish the quality of Personal Effects or 7th Son. It would make me want to buy you a drink a little less, but the work lives on.

This reads like something you needed to get off your chest, and that’s groovy, but it’s a little too opaque for me to get much out of it. Probably because I’m not in the band.

Here, here, J.C! This has needed to be said for a long time, eloquently, without the name-calling or the calling out. The frustrating truth is, the people who most need to read this post, probably won’t.
