7th Son optioned for motion picture development
April 28, 2009
I’ve been sitting on this news for months, but just now received the green light to share: the 7th Son trilogy has been optioned by Warner Bros. for motion picture development.
This is gobsmackingly awesome news, as I — and likely you — always dreamed of the possibility of seeing the likes of John, Father Thomas, Kilroy2.0 and John Alpha on the big screen. We’re one step closer to that.
To be clear: Warner Bros.’ option of the 7th Son trilogy does not guarantee that a film series will be made, but the deal entitles the studio to exercise the right to do so sometime in the next three years. The possibility alone is terrific.
Big props go to my film agent, Joel Gotler, for his relentless championing of 7th Son during this process. Also mad props go to my literary agent Kristin Lindstom, who referred me to Joel.
Will Kilroy2.0 someday be evvvvrywhere in movie theaters? Only time — and your continued support of my work — will tell. Thank you for endless encouragement and evangelism. I’ll spill more deets in my next “Hey, Everybody!” podcast.
Warner Bros…. can you believe that shit?

Got something to say?

Kick ass!
So friggin COOOOOOOL!
Killer news JC. Who’s do you want to play Alpha?
Awesome news Hutch!!
Congratulations!!! That is awesome news!
whenever i listen to the podiobook, i always wonder about how it would be cast. “hey, we need some guys who are exactly oh, 5′ 9″ with #4D3300 hair, other that it doesn’t matter”
Hutch,
Congrats! I hope you become as famous, wealthy, loved, or whatever your heart desires.
This is awesome news. Glad I can say that I listened to you when…
Glenn, WP.
Very awesome shit
WB! That’s some serious shit JC. I’ll be first in line. Congrats, let’s hope they’re smart enough to really make it.
WEWT!
For once, a movie where a single actor plays eight different parts because it makes sense, not just because Eddie Murphy is a narcissist.
Awesome news, J.C. I can’t wait to watch this develop.
GOOD LUCK with this J.C. The 7th Son trilogy will absolutely make three ultra-summer blockbusters in a row. Let us (the Beta Clones) know who we have to bug to get this thing made. Ultimately this is more incentive for everybody to pre-order a copy of the book…or maybe two or three or four copies of the book.
Oh, man!!! That’s perfect! I know it isn’t a guarantee, but that should happen. You deserve it and it would be SOOO much fun!
HOLY CRAP ON A CRACKER!!!! YOU GO, JIMINY CRICKETT!!!
I’ve always thought those people camping out for several days before movie opening nights were kind of strange—but if this movie gets made I will be right there in line with my sleeping bag, iPod, and print copy.
I approve of this message.
Many congrats!
holy crap, this is the best news ever!!!!! congrats!!!!!!!
OMFG!
7th Son is MADE for a movie and you, JC, are made of WIN! I’m thrilled for you.
And hopefully it gets made–then I’ll be thrilled for me, too.
Holy crap, soooo awesome. Counting the days until John Alpha hits the big screen (I know it will happen)
That flat out KICKS ASS!!! Way to go Hutch.
Congrats! That is so awesome. I always knew you were insanely awesome, but who would have known the rest of the world would realize it too.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woo hoo!!!!!! GREAT JOB HUTCH!!!
So when can I buy tickets. The line starts behind me. ::camps out at the theater::
Woo Whoo!!!
Congrats JC! This couldn’t have happened to a nicer hard working guy! You hard work, perseverance and brilliant writing skills has brought you to this amazing juncture in your career. Keep on cranking out the good stuff, keep on smiling and dont change. Keep on being the same ole lovable JC we’ve all come to know. I have a feeling big things are in store for you in the near future!

Kickass!
I remember talking about the 7th Son movie when I interviewed ya on my podcast (The Podshow About Nothing), J.C.!
Dude! This is sooooo giddy!
I only wish I was that tiny bit older so I could audition for the role of Kilroy 2.0.
Need Aussie actors?
Way to go!
From podcast to print and to the big screen? That’s the power of New Media!
Beta Clones and the MOP, let’s be ready to swarm the theaters in 2013 (sooner if possible). I’m predicting a mid-summer release…say the first week of July.
OMG! We are sooooo there on opening night! Midnight showing! Costumes! A Hutchins Extravaganza! Congrats!!!!!!
Very excited for you, J.C.!
This is great news. Now you just have to get a cameo in the flick!
Crikey, you guys are AWESOME. Thanks so much for the kind comments. Remember, your evangelism and support helped make this happen. You deserve 90 percent of the kudos!
–Hutch
I dunno where the Crazy Monkey comment came from LOL
but I put it down to “creative enthusiasm” for the grand news!
Congrats again, you totally deserve this!
*hugs*

Holy sheepdip!
I’m stunned. In a good way. Many congratulations, (“no, the OTHER”) J.C. We all knew 7th Son had legs, and now it turns out those legs are bionic. I’m eager to see where this goes.
Way to go, Hutch. We knew you were good at coming up with kick-keister plots and memorable characters, and you’re continuing to show it with Personal Effects. Nor will it all stop there.
I’m still seated, hands inside the car. It hasn’t come to any kind of stop.

*sigh*
Excellent news, though! I, too, will be waiting in line!
You Are amazing! Congrats on very hard work paying off
Awesome, JC! It was a good story. Hopefully WB doesn’t butcher it.
This is fantastic news, you deserve this Hutch!
7th Son is a killer series!
This is so fantastic!… i still have all my original swag, totally going to be worth the big bucks someday…
That is so COOL! Congrats JC.
This news is just too awesome for words. Wait, I’m writing words, aren’t I? Now you’ve gone and confused me.
Anyway, what can we do to help ensure Warner Bros. knows how much we want this to go all the way through? This property just begs for the big-screen treatment, as so many of the sequences and thrills you put together with these novels would create an incredibly visceral thrill in visual form. I genuinely believe it could be much, much better than the Bourne films, especially if it stays true to the source, unlike the Bourne films.
Now to save up the money to renew my lapsed SAG membership in time for casting…
Way to go, Hutch! Absolutely kickass!
I’ll be first in line for tix to those movies.

Yay! This is good news indeed. Hm, now how do we get Joss Whedon to admit that the original idea for Dollhouse was inspired by JC?
That is the most awesomest thing ever! Way to go J.C.!
Wow, that’s absolutely awesome!
First, 7th Son blows my mind and ears. Now, it will possibly blow my eyes as well! I hope WB makes a great movie of it, but with a story like 7th Son, they can hardly screw it.
Congrats, J.C.!
Grats JC…I think we need to let WB know we want this movie they will at least have to open the emails and say Damn You, JC Hutchins with all your loyal fans filling up our email box.
